Hypervelocity Star & Supermassive Black Hole
By: Muhammad Shamsul Huq Babu

In the dreamlike cosmos, just like me,
They drift in joy across the Milky Way—
Countless hosts of planets, stars, small and great.
Most of them, bound by disciplined law,
Circle their own orbits in their homes,
Yet a few exceptions can be seen.
They are poets, they are nomads, wanderers—they are distinct;
Leaving behind the galaxy they’ve known for eons,
Trampling the beckoning of crowds and civilization,
Sacrificing gentle peace forever,
Why, I do not know, they suddenly long to flee—
To vanish, to depart.
Why? Where to? No answer remains!
Hidden from a thousand curious eyes,
They are called hypervelocity stars.
But are they, too, as resentful as I?

When a destined binary system,
Slowly, gradually, bit by bit—
Why? Lured by what craving? In search of what?—
Drifts near a supermassive black hole,
Then, by gravity’s command,
And by the black hole’s terrible pull of love—
One star is caught by the hunter,
Surrendering its life to another,
While the other is flung away at furious speed.
In truth, it is shoved out, driven away,
For in love, duality is forbidden.
And if betrayed, if neglected, then there’s no more to say.
Once someone, hurt and indignant, is cast out,
Scorned or banished far away,
Then at nearly 2 million km per hour—
Defeating, humbling the very speed of light—
It races on with unstoppable, impossible force.
There’s no time left to look back.
To some far unknown, some uncharted place it sails,
Helpless, it changes its address.
Perhaps to a realm of forest-clad hills—
Be it Naikhongchhari of Bandarban,
Or the beautiful Rupaipara of Lama—what does it matter?
Wherever it goes, there Goddess Ruma will be!

Afterward, slowly, freely,
To savor a life lived alone,
Piercing the web of love, affection, tenderness,
Answering the call of the untamed wild,
It tears apart the galaxy’s gravitational bonds,
Sets fire to tears,
Ignites each mountain peak,
And through endless streams of red, blue, green cascades,
Gazing skyward, from height to depth,
Turns to ash and vanishes into intergalactic void.
Then no one can reach them again.
Another lake like Boga Lake is born.

I am just such a nomad wanderer,
Even today, my journey has no end.
On one side, sorrowful; on the other, joyful—
In between flows Matamuhuri, beyond it the Sangu.
O child of the hills! To discover you is so difficult!
